Synopsis
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands an unlikely high-profile job with geographic implications for her marriage and her political future. The British government allowed them to use real-life sets as locations for the series, including the most recent US embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain rarely allowed filming in the Foreign Minister’s office. The only place that wasn’t available was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador.
Presented at the 75th Emmy Awards (2024)
Although it is accurately described that it occupies the largest residential plot in London (11 acres), excluding Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. and all of them are somewhat puzzling. Their dialogue is dynamic and fascinating, and the story unfolds along complicated political lines. It doesn’t have a strong tone like other similar shows.
It’s like Night Agent, but better
I want to compare it a bit to House of Cards, but it doesn’t quite fit the bill. It has a hint of a sequel, but again, no real merits. I see reviews in which they complain about lead, her disheveled appearance and sharp behavior, but this is her piercing thing! “You need people who don’t *want* to be in power.” Kate focuses on the mission and the goals, from which people’s lives hang in the balance.
She does her job well, so no one talks about her awards
What she wears, how she looks and even when she sleeps is secondary to the main mission. I thought her style was perfect for the storytelling and it was a refreshing change of pace. The best part of the show is the relationship they all have with each other. It’s rare that I like all the characters in the series, but I liked this one.
