Synopsis
A ranching family in Montana stands up against others encroaching on their land. Forrie J.
Basically, it’s mob wars in Montana with huge doses of testosterone at times (cowboys with guns on horses fishing)!
John Dutton (Kevin Costner) frequently seems to have “forgotten,” losing his Montana accent and reverting to the Southern California speaking voice he normally uses. (Reviews are for the first two seasons only) I didn’t expect to like the series, but the plot, acting and camera work are great.
The show gets bogged down early in the second season, but picks up again halfway through
Costner is a master actor as the lead of “The Duttons.” The show is at its finest when it shows the Duttons and their enemies executing chess moves. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and is a poor performer, the plot falters awkwardly and the acting falls just short of the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit rougher and more brutal than the title suggests, this show is in a similar vein. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
